How can I achieve a better work life balance?

Work life balance, or is it just BALANCE IN YOUR LIFE.

There has been much written and talked about “work life balance” but what does that really mean to you?

Being aware of what you are doing and why, is the key. Identifying and knowing what you want to achieve and understanding why is fundamental. The next step is working
on the “how”.

There are numerous articles, promotions, studies and product advertisements available on this subject. In fact there is tons of information. Some may be relevant to you and some may not, however just reading about something is not enough. You need to do something about it. Reading this page is not enough. You need to do something about your approach to your life balance, and understand why this is important to you.

People generally have a challenge in one or all 3 main areas of life:

  1. Wealth and finance
  2. Health and wellness
  3. Relationships and communication

Working from Home has Pros and Cons.

Many people now are achieving better life balance by working from home. Not just those in business for themselves, but those who are able to work away from the main office location. This gives some flexibility but can also create other issues with having the “work” or “projects” so close at hand. There can be a tendency to work late or go back into the home office in the evening. For these people, actively managing this area of your life is essential.

Working Women or Superwoman.

Women in particular can find it difficult to balance all the tasks to be done in the various areas of their life. They often say things like “I have such a challenge balancing home and work life”. The expectations of both seem overwhelming. How can I give my best to both?”

Corporations now promote work/life balance.

Many companies throughout the world are addressing the issues around work / life balance and the consequences of employees not taking care of their health in this area. If people are happy and balanced in their lives they are usually more productive so everyone wins.

So how do we define “balance”? - Stability? - Equalise?

What does it mean to you?
Maybe you don’t really know, you just know you don’t have it and you want it.
Finding the things that are really important to you and being able to do them, both in your personal and professional life, is what people strive for. There does need to have to be a trade-off as some people may think.

It can come down to good TIME MANAGEMENT but it can also come down to understanding how you can change some of your “bad habits” which are really just either learned behaviour or strategies adopted to deal with a specific situation.
